New Delhi: Actor Ali Fazal has revealed that he was initially apprehensive about joining Mirzapur, saying he was unsure about the OTT format at a time when web series were still a new concept in India.
Speaking ahead of the release of Mirzapur: The Movie, Fazal said several people from the film industry had advised him to stay away from the project and focus on movies instead.
"I was scared at that time. I did not know what the format would be," the actor said, adding that his experience in international projects helped him recognise the potential of streaming platforms.
Fazal, who reprises his popular role of Guddu Pandit in the upcoming film, described Mirzapur: The Movie as a "national level experiment", noting that it marks the first time in India that a streaming series is being adapted into a feature film.
The actor credited creators Puneet Krishna and Karan Anshuman for building the gritty world of Mirzapur, which debuted in 2018 and went on to become one of India's most successful streaming franchises.
Apart from Mirzapur: The Movie, slated for release on September 4, Fazal is currently earning praise for his performance in the crime drama Raakh. He will also be seen in Batwara: 1947 and Netflix's anthology series Lust Stories.
