Los Angeles: Actor and comedian John Oliver is set to feature in a guest role in the drama series 'General Hospital'.

Oliver is known for hosting HBO's 'Last Week Tonight' and 'The Daily Show'. He has also featured in 'The Love Guru' and lent his voice to projects such as 'The Lion King' and 'The Smurfs', among others.

He will appear in a three-episode storyline in the series, which will air July 2, 3 and 6, according to entertainment news outlet Variety.

Oliver announced the casting on the June 28 episode of 'Last Week Tonight'. In an earlier episode of the show, Oliver said he wanted to feature in the series.

"When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn’t hesitate for a second. He was everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared, professional, funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set,” executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement.

“He plays an integral character in the story, and I can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths with in Port Charles," he added.

'General Hospital' is the long-running ABC daytime drama, which started in 1963. Created by Frank and Doris Hursley, it features Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), and Genie Francis as Laura Collins.

It revolves around the intertwined personal, medical, and criminal lives of residents in the fictional city of Port Charles, New York.
