Kolkata: More than 500 tourist and passenger boats are set to gather at Kolkata's Babughat on June 21 to mark the International Day of Yoga.

Boats from the Sunderbans and other regions will take part in yoga demonstrations on the Hooghly River. Organisers are also planning special formations on the water to create yoga postures during the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the main Yoga Day celebrations at Kolkata's Red Road, where around 35,000 people are expected to participate.

Yoga programmes are also planned across West Bengal, from the banks of the Ganga and the Sunderbans to villages and city streets, officials added.

Hundreds of yoga instructors have been engaged to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations, with online and offline practice sessions already underway.
