Eight persons named in an FIR over the alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Ram temple in Ayodhya have been arrested.

A court remanded all eight accused to police custody until June 29 in the Ram temple donation case, with police recovering Rs 79.85 lakh during the investigation.

The plea seeks registration of an FIR and a CBI-led probe into alleged financial irregularities in the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

Police arrested four people after the FIR alleged illegal commercial use, fire safety violations and the absence of emergency exits in the building.

The Uttar Pradesh government had on June 13 constituted the SIT on a request from the temple trust following allegations of misappropriation of donations received at the Ayodhya Ram temple.

It has been alleged that the building was approved for residential use but was being illegally utilised for commercial activities

Eyewitnesses said several young people managed to come out of the building after the fire broke out, while some others were reportedly feared trapped inside.

SIT instructed the trust and temple functionaries not to leave Ayodhya.

The crash occurred in Muzaffarnagar leaving two teenagers dead on site and one injured.

Recognition of 465 schools in different districts of the state had ended automatically and the schools had been informed about the decision.

According to the state government, the SIT would conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the matter and submit its findings to it.
