Ankara: US President Donald Trump threatened on Wednesday to strike Iran's civilian infrastructure and to seize Kharg Island along with its oil infrastructure.

Trump made the threats after announcing that the US was preparing for a second night of strikes against Iran after Iranian attacks on American military sites in the Gulf.

"We'll probably hit them hard again tonight", Trump said on the sidelines of the NATO Summit at Turkey's Ankara. Trump also described Iranian regime as "cuckoo" or crazy during his remarks at the Summit.

If the US has to, Trump said, it will take out Iran's electric plants and desalinisation plants. He said Tuesday's strikes included attacks on Kharg Island but not its oil facilities.

“Maybe we'll take over Kharg Island. We may take over Kharg Island. There's not a thing they could do about it,” Trump said.

Trump also stated that the US may restore the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and that the blockade will only be applicable for Iran.

The threats came after Trump's remarks stating that the interim agreement US signed with Iran is over but that he would allow negotiations to continue. Both the nations had inked the agreement on June 17 to end the war in West Asia.

The latest series of crossfires happen as the next set of high-level talks between US and Iran is expected to be held in Doha in the third week of July after the funeral ceremonies for late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei are completed.
